InterNIC is a government business that processes the registration of web sites. This is a description of the process: 1. An individual who has a website to advertise goes to the official website for InterNIC. 2. A web server (computer with a 24/7 internet connection) with a private IP address (a computer version of a phone number, in lamen's terms) is linked to by InterNIC. 3. InterNIC fixes the system so that whenever a pre-selected URL (www.yourname.com) is entered, it goes to your IP address. The normal fees are $70 for the first year, and then $35 per every month thereafter. NOTE: These fees are in addition to whatever your web host charges for services rendered! |
